About Us
BiPar Sciences is a clinical-stage drug development company pioneering novel tumor-selective therapies designed to address urgent unmet needs of cancer patients.BiPar Sciences' lead product candidate, iniparib, the United States Adopted Name (USAN) for the investigational PARP1 inhibitor, BSI-201, is being evaluated in clinical trials in triple-negative breast cancer, ovarian cancer and other solid tumor cancers. Metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (mTNBC) is the lead indication for BSI-201: A Phase 3 study in mTNBC was initiated in July 2009.
Iniparib is a PARP inhibitor (poly ADP-ribose polymerase inhibitor) that targets molecular processes critical for the growth and proliferation of cancer cells. Studies have shown that PARP inhibitors prevent cancer cells from repairing damaged DNA, ultimately leading to impaired tumor growth and cancer cell death.
Among other PARP inhibitors in the industry, iniparib is the furthest along in clinical development. With first-in-class and best-in-class potential, iniparib is highly potent against tumors and inhibits PARP activity for prolonged periods of time. The development of iniparib is also supported by a strong safety profile based on studies of more than 200 patients.
BiPar Sciences' product pipeline also includes BSI-401, a follow-on PARP inhibitor and BSI-302, an anti-tubulin agent that targets cancer cells based on the role of thyroid hormones in cell proliferation and death.
BiPar Sciences is a wholly-owned subsidiary of sanofi-aventis.
